DC Completes LEED® Registered facility in Valparaiso

Led by Ron Dick and Jeremy Hatfield, DC recently completed a corporate office building for the Grand Corporation in Valparaiso, Indiana. The office building houses the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) for the Social Security Administration. Built to LEED® Silver standards, the new office facility was completed in September 2010, and is currently awaiting LEED® Certification from the United States Green Building Council.

Several “green” strategies were used in the construction of the office building, including:

• Creative Stormwater Design to control both quantity and quality
• Concrete Mix exceeding Solar Reflective Index value of 55 to control Urban Heat Island
• Water Use Reduction of 37%
• Improvement of thermal envelope, resulting in a 23% more efficient energy performance
• Construction Waste Management Plan, diverting 60% of Construction Waste from the Landfill
• Indoor Air Quality Plan involving low VOC paints, solvents, adhesives, Green Label Carpet, and low impact construction methods.

DC Participates in Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana Business Drive

On Tuesday, November 16, DC took part in the annual Junior Achievement Business Drive to fund financial literacy programs for northern Indiana students. DC’s Pat Pasterick and Kelly Cady raised $2,200 for the organization. Junior Achievement’s purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

Hanning & Bean Leased Office Building Earns AIA Fort Wayne Award

On Wednesday, November 17th, DC’ers attended the annual AIA Fort Wayne Banquet and Awards Ceremony at One Summit Square. DC took home an AIA Merit Award for its design of the Hanning & Bean Leased Office Building. The project team, led by Ron Dick, Tim Terman and Kelly Shields, accepted the award along with Bill Bean, President of Hanning & Bean Enterprises, and Al McComb, President of Harold McComb & Sons.

IWU Chapel-Auditorium Recognized

The Chapel-Auditorium at Indiana Wesleyan University has been recognized for Outstanding Design by American School & University in their November 2010 edition. The 3,800 seat facility was completed in November 2009. Congratulations to the Design Collaborative team of Kevin Scully, Jeremy Koomler, Ryan Birkey, Jason Baker, Katie Papagiannis, Greg Estes, Meri Everett, Lori Donovan, Jamie Inskeep, Brian Andrews, Dave “Schwoopter” West and many others.
