"Big Dream" Project Wins BCA Excellence in Construction Award

Design Collaborative’s (DC) and Michael Kinder & Sons’ (MKS) Turnstone “Big Dream” Plassman Athletic Center project has been selected as the winner of the 2016 Building Contractors Association (BCA) Excellence in Construction Award in the “New Construction Under $14 million” category. Tim Terman of DC, Bill Kinder and David Michael of MKS, and Mike Mushett of Turnstone were at the award ceremony to accept the honor.

"From the beginning, we at Turnstone wanted to create a Paralympic-level, completely accessible training, recreation, and therapy center for people with disabilities,” said Mike Mushett, CEO of Turnstone. “Design Collaborative and Michael Kinder & Sons quickly embraced that vision, and helped turn our ideas into reality. Their guidance and support have allowed us to see the impact we can make in our community.”

The annual BCA awards were created to recognize the impactful work BCA members are doing within our community.

“The Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone puts Fort Wayne on the map as a nationally recognized arena,” said Bill Kinder, owner of MKS. “It will provide a significant impact to the Fort Wayne region in the years to come.”

Turnstone’s Plassman Athletic Center began construction in August of 2014 and officially opened to the public in September 2015.

“It’s hard to over-state the impact of this project today and in the future,” says Tim Terman, principal and architect at DC. “We are honored to have been a part of such a game-changer right here in our own community.”
